AS A JUNIOR (2010): Started 11 games on the mound following two years in relief…Appeared in 15 games in 2010…Recorded 42 strikeouts in 65 innings…Had five strikeouts in three outings…Allowed two earned runs with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings against Cal State San Bernardino…Spent the summer pitching for the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast Summer League.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2009): Compiled an impressive 2.88 era with a 3-2 record…Appeared in 17 games with one start…Had an excellent 31-12 strikeout to walk ratio…Recorded 11 scoreless outings for the season…Had a streak of six consecutive scoreless outings…Received the Pioneer award.

AS A FRESHMAN (2008): Appeared in 16 games recording a 1-0 record with a 3.51 era. Pitched in the 2008 NCAA Division III West Regionals.

HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: A four-year baseball player and a three-year goalkeeper at Quartz Hill High School…Received most inspirational honors in baseball and honorable mention recognition in soccer…Helped baseball team take the CIF Southern Section Division II Championship as a junior…Was a member of the California Scholarship Federation.

PERSONAL: A business administration major…Has one younger brother, Derek (19) and two younger sisters, Katie (14) and Alicia (9)…Enjoys golf, fishing and the beach…Models himself after Mixed Martial Artist Matt Hughes, Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy and former Pioneer great Levi Josewski…Love’s his mom’s cooking and Mexican food…Favorite movies include “Rudy”, “The Inside Man”, and “Remember the Titans”…Enjoys listening to Switchfoot’s “Stars”…Chose Cal State East Bay because of the location and weather as well as the ability to play baseball and receive a good education…Born Jan. 10, 1989…Parents are John and Ann Volk.
