CHICO, Calif. — No. 12 Cal State East Bay dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader at Chico State, falling 1-0 in the opener before a 4-3 walk-off loss in game two at Wildcat Field.

The first game turned on a single inning.

In a tightly played contest, Chico State broke through in the sixth on a two-hit sequence to push across the only run of the game. East Bay threatened throughout, collecting eight hits, but couldn't find the timely hit to break through.

Jeslyn Cuellar led the offense with two hits, while Jasmyn Morales, Cynthia Carrillo and Mariah Hopkins each added one.

In the circle, Marissa Quintero allowed one run on five hits over six innings.

Game two unfolded with more movement, but a similar finish.

Chico State built a 3-0 lead through four innings before East Bay began to chip away. The Pioneers broke through in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Carrillo, then tied the game in the seventh on a two-run sequence aided by a defensive error.

With the game tied at 3-3, Chico State answered in the bottom of the ninth, capitalizing on a baserunner and a throwing error to bring home the winning run.

East Bay finished with 11 hits in the loss, with Rylee Gomez and Jasmyn Morales each collecting three. Ava Benavides drove in two runs, while Brynn Gentry added a hit and scored.

No. 12 Cal State East Bay continues the series Saturday with a doubleheader at Chico State.
