TUCSON, Ariz. – The Cal State East Bay women's golf team placed 4
th at the WT Desert Invite, their last tournament before postseason play.
East Bay set the tone with the best round of the tournament on day one, carding a 287 (-1) as a team. That opening round featured multiple under-par individual efforts and positioned the Pioneers firmly in contention. While a second-round 317 (+29) proved more challenging, East Bay maintained its position among the tournament's top teams, finishing behind host West Texas A&M and co-runners-up Colorado State University Pueblo and Angelo State University.
Individually, the Pioneers were led by a pair of top-10 finishers in
Carlota Eroles and
Chantel Tsai, who each tied for seventh at +5.
Eroles delivered one of the best performances in the field, opening with a 70 (-2), one of the lowest rounds of the tournament, before closing with a 79. Tsai was even more electric on day one, firing a 68 (-4), which stood as the best single round recorded across both days. She followed with an 81 in round two but still secured her place among the top finishers.
Depth proved to be a key factor in East Bay's team success.
Sakshi Mehta and
Torrie Bowman both finished tied for 20th at +9, while Bowman added a 74 and 79, giving the Pioneers four players inside the top 20
Kathy Leeper rounded out the scoring lineup, placing tied for 58th at +22, while
Nylani Stevenson competed as an individual and finished 69th at +25.
The Pioneers are back in action in two weeks for the CCAA Championships beginning on April 20
th.
