TURLOCK, Calif. — Cal State East Bay wrapped up its weekend series at Stan State on Sunday, falling 5-2 at Warrior Baseball. The Pioneers move to 10-9 overall and 2-2 in CCAA play following the four-game split.
East Bay struck first in the opening inning. Logan Stelling reached with a single and advanced on a passed ball before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Gio Martini to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers added another run in the third. Dominick Najar doubled down the left-field line and later crossed the plate when Alijah Ramos lined an RBI single to center, extending the advantage to 2-0.
Stan State began to chip away in the third inning, capitalizing on an error to score an unearned run. The Warriors pulled even in the fourth when a double, wild pitch and sacrifice bunt produced two runs to move in front 3-2.
Momentum continued to shift in the fifth as AJ Carter connected on a solo home run to center field. Stan State added another run in the sixth with a string of singles to push the lead to 5-2.
East Bay continued to create traffic on the bases, finishing with 10 hits, but was unable to deliver the timely hit needed to close the gap. Stelling led the offense with three hits, while Ramos also collected three hits and drove in a run. Najar added a double and scored once.
Jaxen McAdara worked five innings in the start, allowing four runs (three earned). Alexander Hocking followed with three innings of relief and surrendered one run.
The Pioneers put the tying run on base in the ninth, but Stan State recorded the final outs to secure the win.
Cal State East Bay will step away from conference play next week for a non-conference matchup before returning to CCAA action.
