Ramos Delivers Walk-Off as Pioneers Split with No. 9 Monterey Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State East Bay split Saturday's doubleheader with No. 9 Cal State Monterey Bay at Pioneer Ball Field, rallying for a 10-9 win in the opener before falling 10-1 in game two.

In the first game, the Pioneers erased multiple deficits and walked off the Otters in the final inning.

Monterey Bay struck first in the second, but East Bay responded with two runs in the bottom half. Logan Stelling opened the scoring with a solo home run, and Dylan Unangst later crossed the plate on a double play to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.

The Otters surged ahead in the third with a four-run inning and added three more in the fifth to build an 8-4 advantage.

East Bay chipped away in the middle innings. Stelling drove in a run in the third, and Cristian Angulo followed with an RBI double in the fourth. In the fifth, the Pioneers scored three times, with Caleb Chance delivering an RBI single and Micah Cervantes reaching on an error that brought home a run, trimming the deficit to 8-7.

The decisive push came late. In the seventh, Angulo drove in two runs with a single to put East Bay ahead 9-8.

Monterey Bay answered in the ninth to tie the game, but the Pioneers had the final say. Dominick Najar and Angulo each reached base before Alijah Ramos lined a walk-off RBI single to center field, sealing the 10-9 victory.

Najar led the offense with four hits, while Angulo drove in three runs. Stelling added three hits and two RBIs as East Bay finished with 18 hits.

Lincoln Juarez earned the win in relief, recording the final out.
