Oscar Blomqvist helped him climb to No. 2 on the final leaderboard.
After a first round score of -1, Blomqvist never wavered on Tuesday into over par territory, as his -3 score in the second round included a trio of birdies and 15 even pars. Aiding his overall score as well were four birdies on Monday and one eagle. It was his second career second place finish, as his final score on the leaderboard was 4-under-par 140.
The next two lowest scoring Pioneers were tied for 23rd at 2-over-par 146 -
Paddy Blinderman and
Peyton Hendricks. Hendricks had six birdies in round two and a team high eight overall.
Cal State East Bay assistant golf goach
Arrianna Custodio spoke following the tournament:
"We had a solid start to our first tournament of the spring season. The course definitely played tough with its challenging water hazards and pin placements. We'll be back here for [CCAA Golf Championships] and with the [NCAA Division II West/South Central Regionals] being hosted here as well. Oue experience this tournament is going to be valuable. The bigger picture is taking everything we learned and coming back with a plan of execution. Oscar had an incredible performance this week and gave it a good run to try to tie the lead."
No. 11 Colorado State-Pueblo was the team champion of the tournament and the medalist was Rex Wilson from Western Washington.
The Pioneers return to action March 1-3 in another potential postseason course in Boulder Creek Golf Club, as they are set to compete in the Las Vegas Desert Classic in Boulder City, Nevada.
