SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State East Bay women's cross country team returned to competition Friday afternoon at the San Francisco State Invitational, taking part in the women's 6K race at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
Jennifer Johnson led the way for the Pioneers, crossing the finish line in 40th place with a time of 23:47.7. Johnson paced the East Bay lineup as the Pioneers competed against a field featuring several collegiate programs.
Hope Brookins followed as the second Pioneer across the line, placing 58th overall with a time of 24:20.9. Brookins finished just 33.2 seconds behind Johnson, giving East Bay a pair of runners inside the top 60.
Gaby Sanchez rounded out the Pioneer contingent, finishing 73rd overall with a time of 24:54.7. Just over a minute separated East Bay's first and third finishers, with Sanchez crossing the line 67 seconds behind Johnson.
With three runners competing in the 6K, East Bay did not register a team score, as five finishers are required for team scoring.
The Pioneers continued their 2026 season with another opportunity to compete over the 6K distance, gaining valuable experience as they progress through the fall schedule.
