GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team kicked off their 2024-25 season finishing in a tie for second place at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella. The two-round tournament, held on Monday and Tuesday at the Golf Club of Estrella, saw the Pioneers demonstrate their competitive edge against a strong field.
The 36-hole event, played on a challenging par-72 course, highlighted the depth and talent of the Cal State East Bay squad.
- Leading the charge for the Pioneers was Jasmin Krishna, who tied for third place individually with a score of +3 (147). Krishna's performance was marked by an impressive five birdies, including four in Tuesday's second round, where she carded a stellar -2 (70). Her score stood out as the lowest among all CCAA golfers in the tournament.
- Making a splash in her Pioneer debut, Sophia Tejeda secured a tie for 15th place at +8 (152). Tejeda's tournament performance was highlighted by three birdies among 36 holes played in addition to a rare eagle in the second round - one of only two eagles recorded in the entire tournament.
- The tournament also served as a proving ground for newcomers Torrie Bowman and Denise Paulsson, finishing with three and two birdies respectively throughout the event.
While Colorado Christian claimed the team title, and Raya Schulz earned individual medalist honors with an even-par 144, Cal State East Bay's strong showing sets a positive tone for the season ahead.
The Pioneers will look to capitalize on their early momentum as they prepare for their next challenge. The team is set to compete in the WT Regional Preview from September 30 to October 1 at the Tascosa Golf Club - La Paloma Course in Amarillo, Texas.
