CLEVELAND - The National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) announced its 2024 award winners presented by Spry on Tuesday morning. From Cal State East Bay, Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator Marcie Haduca Covell was honored with the Division II Excellence award.
NAAC presents the Division II Excellence award as a prestigious annual award to a professional who is a leader in the compliance field at the NCAA Division II level. The award has been sponsored since 2012. The recipient must be a full-time Division II compliance administrator for a minimum of five years and demonstrate leadership and vision for compliance initiatives among peers.
"I'm thrilled Marcie is being recognized nationally for what those of us at East Bay already know - that she is one of the best compliance administrators in the country," stated CSUEB Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Allison Kern. "Marcie makes our program better every day and serves our student-athletes at an elite level."
Haduca Covell has been a member of the Pioneers athletic administration since 2021. She is responsible for developing CSUEB's rules education and monitors initial and continuing eligibility for student-athletes, prepares waiver requests for the NCAA and conference offices and oversees the university's NLI program. A very notable achievement at CSUEB for Haduca Covell includes the implementation of ARMS compliance software for the athletic department. At East Bay, she oversees multiple sport programs as a member of the department's leadership team.
Beyond Cal State East Bay, Haduca Covell serves as chair for the Division II Committee for Legislative Relief.
Before arriving to the CSUEB campus, Haduca Covell served as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance/SWA for Holy Names University and was an assistant women's basketball coach.
Haduca Covell will be recognized in person during the 2024 NAAC Convention in Las Vegas next month for her award.
