LOS ANGELES – Cal State East Bay baseball closed its series with Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday at Reeder Field as the Pioneers defeated the Golden Eagles 9-3.
After three scoreless innings,
Luke Novitske scored the first run of the game on a bases loaded wild pitch in the top of the fourth. With two runners in scoring position after the wild pitch,
Jacob Klinovsky doubled to right center to drive in two runs. After Klinovsky reached third base after a single from
Robert Ellwanger, Klinivsky scored on a throwing error as CSUEB led 4-0.
Although the Golden Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the fourth after a leadoff home run, the Pioneers added three more runs in the top of the fifth.
Matthew O'Mahony and
Danelle Daniels hit an RBI single each and O'Mahony eventually scored after a sacrifice bunt by
Matthew Mandeville for a 7-1 lead.
Cal State LA scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, the Pioneers got the runs back in the top of the seventh. Klinovsky hit his second double of the game that drove a runner home, and also scored later in the inning on a wild pitch for a 9-3 lead, which became the final score in the series finale.
- Derek Murphy picked up his second win of the season with 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs and striking out four batters faced.
- Klinovsky led the Pioneers' offense going 2-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Both of his hits were doubles.
- Daniels and Ellwanger also had two hits each.

The Pioneers will return home next weekend to start a four-game CCAA series against Cal State Dominguez Hills. First pitch on Friday, April 12 from Pioneer Baseball Field is set for 3 p.m.
