SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball opened a CCAA series against Cal State San Bernardino at Fiscalini Field on Friday afternoon. The Coyotes defeated the Pioneers 16-7.
Danelle Daniels led off the game with a solo home run to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0.
The Pioneers would score another run in the top of the second inning on a ground out RBI by Daniels that drove in
Niko Mollat for a 2-0 lead.
The Coyotes scored six unanswered runs throughout the second and third inning for a 6-2 lead.
Luke Brown singled to right field to drive in a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and Brown scored later in the inning when
Alonzo Guijarro hit an RBI single to left field as the Pioneers trailed 6-5.
However, CSUSB scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, all of bases loaded walks, to extend the lead to 9-5.
Hodges hit an RBI groundout in the top of the fifth inning to bring the Pioneers within three runs, but the Coyotes added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead 13-6.
Although the Pioneers scored one more run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from
Quinn Ayres, CSUSB tacked on three more runs toward a 16-7 win to open the series on Friday.
- Guijarro, Brown, Brenden Bell and Sam Gilliam had two hits each.
- Daniels and Brown had two RBIs each.
- Daniels' home run was his second of the season.
