HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay played the third game of a CCAA series with Cal State Dominguez Hills at Pioneer Baseball Field on Saturday afternoon following a rain delay. The Toros defeated the Pioneers 7-5 in seven innings.
Luke Brown opened the scoring with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the first innings and later in the inning,
Matthew O'Mahony singled to left field to drive in
Alonzo Guijarro for a 2-0 lead.
The Toros took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning with three runs.
Guijarro led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run to left field to tie the game at 3-3. After the home run, O'Mahony doubled, and advanced to third base after a single from
Quinn Ayres. O'Mahony scored the go-ahead run after a sacrifice fly RBI by
Sam Gilliam.
Although bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth tied the game for CSUDH, a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth allowed
Danelle Daniels to score and give the Pioneers a 5-4 lead.
The Toros would tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single from Jeffrey Ray. One inning later, CSUDH went ahead 7-5 on a two-run home run by Alex Sepulveda. CSUEB would not score in the final two innings as the Toros went on to a 7-5 win in seven scheduled innings.
- Guijarro went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Both hits were for extra bases.
- O'Mahony and Ayres also had two hits each.
- Guijarro's home run was his third of the season while Brown hit his second home run of the season.
- In a no-decision, Derek Murphy pitched 4.0 innings with only two earned runs allowed and struck out four.
