VISTA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's golf finished in fifth place at the CSUSM Fujikara Invitational, as the Pioneers competed in Tuesday's final round.
  • Mandi Granato shot a third round score of 5-over-par 77 for a tournament score of 10-over-par 226, which tied her for fifth place on the leaderboard. Granato's nine birdies was tied for the most among the field.
  • Senior Julika Grosspietsch had the low round of the day for the Pioneers as she shot a 2-over-par 74 for a tournament score of 11-over-par 227. She was tied for seventh on the leaderboard.
Cal State East Bay golf coach Chris Oetinger spoke about the team's performance following the tournament. "Not the result we wanted but we are taking it in stride," stated Oetinger. "Unfortunately, we did not have our best stuff this week. Compounding errors took us out of contention and we struggled to get momentum going once the struggles started. With all that said, I was proud of the way the ladies battled and the attitudes they kept. Something we need to figure out as a team is how to score when we don't have our 'A' game. We will take the lessons learned from this week and get to work as Poppy Hills will be a test next week."

Cal State San Marcos won the women's team competition and Madison Murr of CSUSM won the individual competition with a 1-under-par 215.

The Pioneers' next tournament is the DBU Invitational, next Monday and Tuesday from Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
