SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay volleyball finished off its two match CCAA road trip by taking on No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes defeated the Pioneers 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18).
Kara Green reached a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs on Saturday.
Coyotes started the opening set on a 17-11 run capped by a Trinity Sheridan kill. The Pioneers would come as close as two, at 18-16, on a
Lexi Pagani kill. However, CSUSB would close the set on a 7-2 run to win the first set 25-18 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, the Coyotes started the set on an 8-3 run capped by a Jenna Patton kill. From that point, the Pioneers responded 14-7 run, capped by a
Taumafa Tuinauvai service ace and led 17-15. After that point, the two teams would trade the next 12 points. The Pioneers would take the lead for good at 23-22 on an
Alexandria Gloria kill. The Pioneers would win the second set 25-23 after a kill from
Mia Jordan to even the match at 1-1.
Although the third set was close through much of the set, CSUSB pulled away to take the set, 25-19 for a 2-1 lead.
The Coyotes jumped out to a quick 4-0 in the fourth set and never looked back. While the Pioneers faced match point behind 24-14, they kept the match going by scoring the next four points. However, a kill by Sheridan closed out the match with a fourth set win of 25-18, winning the match 3-1.
- Green's double-double was her second of the season. Her 14 kills was a team-high.
- Gloria, Tuinauvai and Pagani each had two service aces.
- With three total blocks was Alyssa Zaragoza.
- Tuinauvai led the Pioneers in digs with 12.
