HAYWARD, Calif. – The 2023 home schedule and CCAA action opened up Friday evening for the Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team at Pioneer Gymnasium. In four sets, the Pioneers lost to Cal State San Marcos, 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 25-23).
In the opening set, both the Pioneers and Cougars battled to 11-11. CSUSM scored the next three points and didn't look back in the set. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead with a 25-21 set one victory.
Lexi Pagani had three kills and a service ace in the opening set.
Despite surrendering the first three points of set two, the Pioneers evened the match at 1-1 in sets by winning the set, 25-18 as
Alexandria Gloria had a kill to close out the set.
The third set was an even battle throughout. However, CSUSM prevailed with the final two points of the set for a 25-23 win and a 2-1 set advantage.
Like set three, though it was a close battle, the Cougars won 25-23 and ultimately took the match, 3-1.
- Mia Jordan had a season-high 15 kills. She finished with a .520 attack percentage.
- Defensively, Fane Paua finished with five total blocks.
- With two service aces each were Pagani and Megan Crecelius.
- Crecelius finished with a season-high 25 assists.
