CERES, Calif. - On Saturday evening, the 2023 season started for the Cal State East Bay men's cross country team as the Pioneers competed in the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational at River Oaks Golf Course. 
 

SUMMARY

With seven collegiate teams on the 8k course, the Pioneers finished third and second among NCAA Division II programs. 

Highlighting the individual performances on Saturday among Cal State East Bay runners was Matthew Morgon, who set a personal 8k record of 25 minutes, 8.4 seconds and finished seventh as the Pioneers' fastest runner on the course Saturday. 
 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

• Also setting a personal 8k record on Saturday was Chas O'Bear, who completed the course in 25:33.3, placing 12th overall. 
• Debuting for the Pioneers on Saturday were Isaac Tiscareno (26:11.1), Ian Queenan (26:26.1), Juan Cadena (26:28.6), Jose Garcia Chavez (26:56.8) Ian Mead (27:22.5), Gage Bellomo (28:20.4), Jack Reindel (28:23.3) and Andrew Sandoval (28:48.4).

The Pioneers return to action on the morning of Saturday, September 23 in the Cougar Challenge, taking place on the campus of Cal State San Marcos.
