HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball closed a four game CCAA series at Pioneer Baseball Field against No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. The Coyotes defeated the Pioneers 9-4 taking three of four games.
The Coyotes opened the game with a bang scoring four runs in the top of the first inning for a 4-0 lead. Three of the runs were off a bases loaded triple hit by Danny Garcia.
The Pioneers got a run back in the bottom of the first inning on a
Matthew O'Mahony sacrifice fly that drove in
Luke Brown.
CSUSB added a run in the top second inning and one more in the top of the fifth inning, building up to a 6-1 lead.
CSUEB cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an
Essex Brown Jr. RBI single to right field that scored
Niko Mollat.
The Coyotes would score three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 9-2 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth inning,
Robert Ellwanger scored on a wild pitch and Brown Jr. doubled to left field driving in
Samuel Esparza.
CSUSB finished with a 9-4 win to close out the four-game series.
- Brown Jr. led the Pioneers offensively going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
- Luke Brown had two hits in the game.
- Esparza is currently on a six-game hitting streak.
