HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay played the second day of their CCAA series against Cal State Los Angeles in Hayward. The Pioneers won game one 13-4 and game two 2-0.
Game One – Cal State East Bay 13, Cal State LA 4
The Pioneers went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first.
Luke Novitske and
Matthew O'Mahony had RBI singles and Novitske scored the third run of the inning on an RBI fielder's choice by
Manny Garcia.
The Golden Eagles would score one run in the top of the second on an RBI double from Ethan Gonzalez and one another in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Kadyn Victorian.
The Pioneers would add a run in the bottom of the third on a
Cole Anderson sacrifice fly to center field that scored Novitske.
Cal State LA scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.
The Pioneers' offense would explode for four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Garcia hit an RBI double to right center,
Jacob Klinovsky single to right field to drive in Garcia and
Matthew Mandeville launched two run home run for an 8-4 lead.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Luke Brown grounded out for an RBI and Brown Jr. and Novitske followed with an RBI hit each.
Anderson scored the Pioneers' 12
th run of the game on a double play in the bottom of the eighth and
Luke Brown hit an RBI double as Cal State East Bay led 13-4 and finished the top of the ninth inning to follow retiring the side for a 13-4 win.
In relief,
Anthony Perez picked up his second win of the season with 5.2 innings on the mound not allowing a run and striking out six.
Game #2 – Cal State East Bay 2, Cal State LA 0 (7 innings)
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a O'Mahony RBI double to left center that drove in Novitske. Cal State East Bay went up 2-0 in bottom of the fifth inning when Anderson singled for an RBI as Brown Jr. scored.
Ethan Brodsky picked up his sixth win of the season as he pitched a four-hit complete game shutout with eight strikeouts.
- Through Saturday, O'Mahony is on an eight game hitting streak, currently with a .364 batting average.
- Anderson had two hits in game two.
- In game one, Novitske went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Mandeville's home run was the second of his career.
- Brodsky's eight strikeouts puts him as the leader through Saturday for most in the CCAA with 73.
- The Pioneers surpassed 400 hits on the season on Saturday.
