RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The final day of the 2023 CCAA Women's Golf Championships took place Wednesday at Victoria Club. Placing third among six teams was the Cal State East Bay women's golf team. With her fifth place tie on the final leaderboard,
Jasmin Krishna was named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team.
Krishna finished with the lowest score among the Pioneers at 11-over-par 227 (77-76-74). Of the 54 holes played, Krishna birdied on six and made even par on 32.
For the Pioneers to place third, Krishna was not the only golfer on the team to help the team scoring throughout the tournament.
- Mandi Granato finished tied for 11th on the leaderboard at 18-over-par 234 (78-77-79).
- Climbing into 15th place with a 73 on Wednesday was Drishti Karumbaya. She had the only eagle for CSUEB and a team-high seven birdies throughout the tournament.
- With a team-high 33 even par holes was Arrianna Custodio.
"The ladies really fought hard through this tournament," said Cal State East Bay assistant coach
Chris Oetinger. "After round one, we were in a big hole and knew we needed to grind out a respectable tournament. I was impressed by the ladies' work ethic as they all grinded on the practice facility post round tto find some confidence. The work paid off as they improved each round. They put together their best team score in the final round even though the pins were put in much tougher locations. Jasmin was our 'rock' for this tournament. Her stable and consistent play anchored our climb up the leaderboard. The focus now turns to [NCAA Regionals] as we await the [NCAA West Region Selection Committee's] announcement on May 1."
Cal State San Marcos won the 2023 CCAA Women's Golf Championship team title. It was the fourth consecutive CCAA Championship for the Cougars. Winning the individual title was Caroline Wales of CSUSM, with a final score of 2-over-par 218 (74-72-72).
The announcement for teams qualifying for the NCAA West Regional is expected to take place May 1. If the Pioneers are selected for the 2023 NCAA West Regional, they will compete in the tournament from May 8-10 at Golf Club of Dallas in Dallas, Texas.
