CARSON, Calif. – Cal State East Bay baseball wrapped up a CCAA series against CSU Dominguez Hills on Sunday in Carson. The Toros defeated the Pioneers 11-8 to take the series finale.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the top of the second inning on a
Matthew Mandeville RBI double down the left field line that scored
Cole Anderson.
Mandeville got another RBI on a grounder to the shortstop that drove in
Matthew O'Mahony for a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
CSUDH scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 4-2 lead, but the Pioneers would add three runs in the top of the fifth inning – one on a
Luke Brown RBI double to right center field that scored
Samuel Esparza, another on a
Luke Novitske RBI single up the middle that scored
Luke Brown and one on an RBI single by Anderson.
The Toros tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a lone run then went ahead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 8-5.
The Pioneers would trim the Toros' lead to one with two runs in the top of the seventh inning with both on a Mandeville double down the left field line for two RBIs that scored Anderson and Garcia.
CSUDH added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for their final tallies, extending the lead to 11-7.
Jacob Klinovsky hit a solo home run to center field which was his first of the season, in the top of the ninth inning, trimming the CSUDH lead to 11-8. Although the next two batters reached base with the tying run represented at bat, the Toros closed out the game with an 11-8 win.
- Anderson went 5-5 with one RBI and two runs scored on Sunday. He went 10-for-16 in the series with nine RBIs. His .374 batting average is seventh in the CCAA through Sunday.
- Luke Brown had three hits on Sunday and is currently on a six game hit streak. He finished the series going 9-for-20 with eight RBIs.
- On the mound, Tristin Tatum had five strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The Pioneers will take on Sonoma State this coming Tuesday in Rohnert Park at 1 p.m. for a make up game. It will be the final game of the season series between CSUEB and Sonoma State as the Pioneers seek the season sweep.
