ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The 2022-23 regular season for the Cal State East Bay men's golf team concluded Tuesday at the same course in which it started at Foxtail Golf Club. The Pioneers placed ninth among 19 teams in the NCAA West Region Spring Preview.
With the lowest score among the Pioneers was
Michael Savin, who finished in an 11
th place tie on the leaderboard at even par 216 (69-75-72). Savin had two eagles and 12 birdies.
The next lowest score for CSUEB was from
Easton Hether, who was tied for 18
th at 2-over-par 218. He had a team-high 13 birdies.
Xavier Coreno had 35 even par holes among the 54 played.
"We had a decent tournament but unfortunately we were in a position coming into the final round to have a great tournament," said Cal State East Bay head coach Alan Sue. "Today we slipped a bit mentally and lost some unnecessary strokes mid round. We will continue to forge ahead towards CCAAs with the goal of strong mental games for a complete 54-hole tournament. I'm really proud of Mike and his journey [throughout] the academic year. He has ascended to become one of our top players."
The team champion of the NCAA West Region Spring Preview was Cal State San Marcos. Matthew Pennington of CSUSM and Jordan Lee of Western Washington were co-individual champions tied atop the leaderboard at 8-under-par.
Next week, from April 17-19, the Pioneers will compete in the CCAA Championships. The opening round is set for Monday from Victoria Club in Riverside. Tee time is set for 8 a.m.
