VISTA, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's golf team placed third among 15 teams in the 2023 CSUSM Fujikura Invitational, which took place at Shadowridge Golf Club.
Among all golfers for the Pioneers,
Drishti Karumbaya had the lowest score at 8-over-par 152 (76-76). She finished with five birdies throughout the tournament, including three in Tuesday's second round.
Also finishing in the top-20 for the Pioneers were
Julika Grosspietsch 10-over-par 154 and
Jasmin Krishna at 11-over-par 155.
"This was a nice result for the ladies," stated Cal State East Bay assistant coach
Chris Oetinger following Tuesday's final round. "The field was strong and we beat some key teams that we needed to beat. It is hard to not feel like we let an opportunity slip away considering we had the lead with [nine holes] to go. In the end, we missed too many putts to walk away with a win. I am very happy with the start to our spring season. We will enjoy this upcoming week off and get back to work on our short games."
Cal State Monterey Bay won the team competition, and Alli Kim from Point Loma was the individual medalist at even par 144.
With the upcoming week off, the Pioneers return to action on March 20-21 for the DBU Invitational, which will be played at Poppy Hills Golf Club in Pebble Beach, California.
