ALAMEDA, Calif. – Extremely high winds affecting golf play at Corica Park on Tuesday ultimately led to the cancelation of round three in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout. Therefore, Monday's action from the first two rounds determined the final results of the tournament, as Cal State East Bay men's golf placed 6th among 15 teams.
Three Pioneers finished tied for 18
th place on the leaderboard, including
Xavier Coreno,
Quentyn Kowata and
Michael Savin (entered as an individual) at 1-under-par 143.
Below are some of the highlights on the course for Cal State East Bay on Monday.
- Of the 36 holes played, Savin had a team-high 10 birdies.
- Kowata had the only eagle for CSUEB on Monday.
- Aaron Lee (entered as an individual) had 26 even par holes.
"We fell short of our goals this week," said Cal State East Bay head coach Alan Sue. "After having a lead for most of Monday, we didn't finish the way I know that we are capable of. The lessons we learned are valuable and I know we will make adjustments moving forward. Our region is strong but we've proven we can play with any of these teams."
Cal State San Marcos was the team champion of the 2023 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, with Simon Fraser placing second.
Three golfers finished tied for first place after two rounds, including Andy Yoon of Cal State Dominguez Hills, Greg Mouser of CSUSM and Luke Dugger of Holy Names. Yoon was declared as the medalist by way of multiple tiebreakers applied.
