SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday evening in CCAA action, 67-56. Scoring a team high 20 points was
Payton Sterk.
The opening quarter had the Pioneers pull away for an early 17-7 lead and ultimately finish the first 10 minutes ahead 19-11. With an even second quarter, Cal State East Bay led 32-24 at halftime.
Three times in the third quarter, the lead grew to 14 points.
Starting the fourth quarter, the Pioneers led 51-41.
Grace Campbell started the scoring in the fourth for a 12 point lead, but CSUMB cut the deficit to as little as seven points. But at the 6:47 mark,
Kelsey Valencia started a 12-0 run with a jumper, as the Pioneers led by 19 points.
Although the Otters scored the final eight points of the game, it was not enough as Cal State East Bay finished with a 67-56 win.
- Sterk scored 20 points, going 7-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. She made three baskets from beyond the arc.
- Jaela Richardson has scored in double figures in nine straight games. On Thursday, she finished with 13 points.
- Taylor Linzie had 15 rebounds, setting a career-high.
- Mikayla Mabie scored a team-high 14 points for the Otters.

The final game of the 2022-23 season for the Pioneers takes place this coming Saturday at San Francisco State. Tipoff from Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza is set for 1 p.m. On January 12, the Pioneers defeated the Gators, 84-62.
