Senior Day Takes Place on Saturday for Pioneer Women's Basketball

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team entered Saturday two games out of a final spot to qualify for the CCAA Tournament. On Senior Day at Pioneer Gymnasium the Pioneers fell 64-53 to No. 14 Cal State San Marcos.

GAME SUMMARY
 
The first half had uneven quarters, but the end result through 20 minutes of action was a 27-27 tie at halftime. 

Thee second half had the Cougars control the third quarter and not look back as their lead grew to as much as 14 points in the second half. CSUSM finished with a 64-53 win. 

Prior to the game, Grace Campbell, Michaella Dean and Delia Moore were honored during a senior ceremony.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Scoring a team-high 19 points for CSUEB was Jaela Richardson, who went 9-for-19 from the floor and made one free throw.
  • Richardson also had a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Scoring a season-high 10 points was Michaella Dean, who played in her final home game at Pioneer Gymnasium.
  • Richardson had four blocks and has 30 on the season. 
  • In her final home game, Moore finished with eight points and two rebounds. Defensively, she had a block and two steals. 
  • Grace Campbell also played in her final home game with the Pioneers, as she finished with four points and had five rebounds. 
  • With the loss for the Pioneers, combined with wins in CCAA action on Saturday by Sonoma State and Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State East Bay has been eliminated from postseason contention for the 2022-23 season.

With the home schedule complete for the season, two games remain for the Pioneers. The first of the two takes place this coming Thursday at Cal State Monterey Bay. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. from the CSUMB campus in Seaside. On January 14, the Pioneers defeated the Otters, 66-46.
