ARCATA, Calif. – A late run by Cal Poly Humboldt made the difference in a 66-63 CCAA loss for the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team on Thursday evening at Lumberjack Arena.
For a majority of the first half, Cal State East Bay led, though was unable to establish a double-digit lead. With 1:53 left in the first half,
Garrett Pascoe made a pair of free throws to extend a one point lead to 33-30. The Lumberjacks scored the final four points of the half, all free throws by Marlon Ruffin. Humboldt led 34-33 at haltime.
The Lumberjacks maintained a single digit lead throughout the second half until
Dimitrios Klonaras made a layup at the 4:06 mark to tie the game at 58-58. The lead to the Pioneers at the 3:02 mark after
Tim Andreolli made a steal and scored the go-ahead basket. Less than a minute later, Klonaras made a 3-pointer to give Cal State East Bay a 63-58 lead.
However, a combination of fouls and missed baskets allowed the Lumberjacks to climb back, with six of their final eight points off free throws. Humboldt finished with a 66-63 win.
- Klonaras led the Pioneers in scoring with 18 points, going 6-for-16 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
- Andreolli and Klonaras had three 3-pointers in the game.
- With a season-high nine rebounds was Chris James.
- Ruffin scored a game-high 20 points on Thursday.
