HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's basketball dropped a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon against No. 13 Western Washington, 79-55 at Pioneer Gymnasium.
The Pioneers opened with the game with the first four points, layups from
Kayla Rosemon and
Jaela Richardson, but the Vikings scored the next 10 points unanswered, and did not look back in the opening quarter. WWU led 24-6 through the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Vikings continued to pull away, outscoring the Pioneers 21-11 to take a 45-17 lead into halftime.
While the third quarter was even at 20-20, the Pioneers outscored WWU in the fourth quarter, 18-14, highlighted by eight made free throws and five field goals. However, the Vikings finished the game with a 79-55 victory.
- Payton Sterk led the Pioneers in scoring with 15 points, going 4-for-16 from the floor and made all six free throw attempts.
- Rosemon had a team-high eight rebounds for CSUEB.
- With three steals each for the Pioneers were Lailah Carey, Abigail Cooper, Josias Mickens and Camryn Washington.
- For WWU, Brooke Walling scored a game-high in points (21), rebounds (9) and blocks (4).
- CSUEB shot 34 percent from the floor while the Vikings shot 50 percent in field goals.
- WWU had a 40-29 rebounding edge.
