TURLOCK, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's basketball fell in its 2023-24 CCAA opener on Thursday to Stanislaus State, 69-46.
In the first quarter, the Pioneers would gain their largest lead of the ballgame at three on three occasions; the third occasion at 7-4 on an
Abigail Cooper jumper in the paint with 7:03 left in the quarter. The two teams would trade the lead throughout the remainder of the quarter but the Warriors led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Warriors started to pull away from the Pioneers to lead by as much as 11 points. At halftime, Stanislaus State led 33-24.
Coming out of the halftime break, less than a minute into the third quarter,
Payton Sterk made a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to six, 33-27. However, the Warriors built their lead to as much as 14, including a 50-36 lead at the end of the quarter.
Stanislaus State built on its lead in the final quarter, and cruised to a 69-46 win over Cal State East Bay.
- Scoring eight points each were CSUEB were Lailah Carey, Taylor Linzie and Kayla Rosemon.
- With a career-high 16 rebounds was Linzie.
- Josias Mickens had four steals.
- The Pioneers shot 27.7 percent from the floor while Stanislaus State shot 41.7 percent in field goals.
- CSUEB had a 48-47 rebounding advantage on Thursday
