CHICO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay men's golf wrapped up their time at the Wildcat Classic on Tuesday at Butte Creek Country Club.
Easton Hether finished in a first place tie for 54 holes played. As a team, the Pioneers finished third. For a second consecutive tournament, Hether was tied for first place after 54 holes played and earned his place on an All-Tournament Team.
In a playoff hole, John Kim of Cal State San Bernardino and Hether met to determine a medalist. Kim won the playoff hole to become the medalist in the Wildcat Classic.
Hether shot a final round 4-under-par 68 after hitting five birdies on the back nine and one eagle on the par 5 ninth hole as through 54 holes, he was 12-under-par 204. Of the 54 holes played in regulation, Hether had 16 total birdies and the only eagle among all Pioneers.
Adam Brangefalt shot a 71 to finish the tournament tied for 12
th along with two other golfers at 2-under-par 214. In all, Brangefalt had 13 birdies throughout the tournament.
Competing as an individual,
Ananjan Kaushik carded a 3-under par 69 to tie for 25 for a final score of 2-over-par 218.
Chico State won the team competition by three strokes over Sonoma State.
Cal State East Bay men's and women's golf head coach Alan Sue spoke following the tournament:
"This was an impressive performance by the team and Easton once again. I love the way this team displays patience and combines that with a grinding mentality. This team can be special. We will turn our focus to preparing for Bayonet in a couple of weeks."
