CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team lost a CCAA matchup at Chico State on Saturday afternoon, 62-55. Scoring a season-high 22 points for the Pioneers was
Jaela Richardson.
Although Richardson scored six points in the opening quarter, Chico State led 18-14 after the first 10 minutes of action.
The second quarter was low scoring but one point favorable to the Pioneers, 10-9. The Wildcats led 27-24 at halftime.
Cal State East Bay trailed early in the third quarter, but came back to take a 34-33 lead at the 5:50 mark on a 3-pointer from
Payton Sterk. The Pioneers led by as much as seven in the third, but went into the final quarter with a five-point lead, 45-40.
Richardson scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats climbed back in the game, and tied the game at 51-51 at the 3:42 mark of the fourth quarter.
Although
Delia Moore made a jumper at the 2:00 mark to give a brief lead to Cal State East Bay, Chico State answered with a layup from Jordan Morris and regained the lead, 56-53 on a 3-pointer from Brandy Huffhines. While the Pioneers cut the deficit to a point on a layup from Richardson with 27 seconds left, a combination of free throws by the Wildcats and three missed field goals by the Pioneers led to a 62-55 win for Chico State.
- Richardson scored a season-high 22 points going 10-for-15 from the floor and making two free throws.
- For the fourth time in her last five games, Moore scored in double figures, as she finished with 11 points.
- With a team high nine rebounds was Richardson.
- Moore also had a season-high six assists.
- Defensively, Richardson had a block and three steals.

"We fought hard for 35 minutes while on the road. We have to dig down in the last five minutes and finish out possessions."
