HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team returned to winning form on Thursday evening with an 84-62 victory over San Francisco State in CCAA action. Led by
Payton Sterk, four of five starters for the Pioneers scored in double-figures during the win.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 14-3 lead in the first quarter. The Gators made up some ground late in the quarter though, as CSUEB led 19-13.
Cal State East Bay started the second quarter on a 10-0 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Sterk at the 6:58 mark. The Pioneers built their lead to as much as 21, and ultimately took a 17-point lead, 42-25 into halftime.
With an even 19-19 third quarter, the Pioneers took a 61-44 lead into the final quarter.
While SF State trimmed the deficit to as little as 13 points in the final quarter, Cal State East Bay prevailed with a 22-point win, 84-62 on Thursday.
- Four Pioneers reached double figures in points, including Sterk (18, matching a season-high), Grace Campbell (15), Jaela Richardson (12) and Delia Moore (12).
- With her team and season-high 14 rebounds, Campbell reached the second double-double in her CSUEB career.
- Campbell also had a great defensive showing on Thursday with a block and three steals.
- The 22-point win was the largest margin of victory for the Pioneers this season in CCAA play.
- Taimane Lesa-Hardee led the Gators in scoring with 14 points.

"We started off strong with a sense of urgency on the defensive end. Our press was able to help create offense for us which in the end allowed us to share the ball and finish with four players in double figures. It was a good team victory for the girls."
