MEET RECAP: CSUEB Men’s Cross Country Opens Season at USF Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO – On Saturday at Golden Gate Park, the Cal State East Bay men's cross country team opened its 2022 season at the USF Invitational. Among 14 teams (12 four-year institutions), the Pioneers placed eighth in team points.
 
"Today was a solid season opener for both teams," said CSUEB assistant coach Jordan Rodriguez. "We're excited for the road ahead."
 
Below are some highlights for the Pioneers on Saturday.
  • Cole McKain was the top finisher for Cal State East Bay in the men's 8k, placing 25th overall (in a field of 130 runners), completing the course in 25 minutes, 47.7 seconds.
  • Achieving a personal best 8k time was Sebastian Garcia, finishing in 26:04.5.
  • In his Pioneer debut, Chas O'Bear finished in 26:50.8
 
The top team in scoring was Stanford, while Santa Clara's Alex Miley was the top individual finisher with a time of 24:56.7.
 
Among four NCAA Division II teams, Stanislaus State was the best scoring team, placing fifth. The Pioneers fell second among Division II teams.
 
On Saturday, September 24, the Pioneers return to action with the Cougar Challenge, which takes place in San Marcos, California.
