SAN FRANCISCO – On Saturday at Golden Gate Park, the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team opened its 2022 season at the USF Invitational. Among 13 teams (12 non-club teams), the Pioneers placed seventh in team points.
"Today was a solid season opener for both teams," said CSUEB assistant coach
Jordan Rodriguez. "We're excited for the road ahead."
Below are some highlights for the Pioneers on Saturday.
- Claire Fisher led the Pioneers with a team-best 6k time of 22 minutes, 6.4 seconds, placing 23rd overall among 125 runners.
- Chase Worthen completed the 6k course in 22:25.1.
- Making her debut with the Pioneers was Alyssa Escay, who finished with a time of 23:19.4.
The top team in scoring was Stanford, while Riley Stewart of the Cardinal was the top individual runner with a time of 20:48.6.
Among four NCAA Division II teams, Stanislaus State was the best scoring team, placing third overall. The Pioneers fell second among Division II teams.
On Saturday, September 17, the Pioneers return to action in Joplin, Missouri for the Southern Stampede.
