Pioneer Baseball Celebrates Senior Day in Season Finale

HAYWARD, Calif. - On Saturday, the 2022 season finale took place for the Cal State East Bay baseball team. The Pioneers dropped the final game of the season, 3-1 to Chico State.

Both teams would scored their only runs of the ballgame in the sixth inning. The Wildcats put three runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning with one on a Willie Lajoie RBI single to left field that scored Zach Morris, and two on a Grady Morgan double to left field to drive in Lajoie and Jack Murphy.

The Pioneers scored their only run of the game on a Francisco Pedraza RBI sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Essex Brown Jr. to score.

Brown Jr., Pedraza and Tommy Scavone each got a hit. Pedraza finishes the season on a 13-game hitting streak, and has a hit in 16 of the last 17 games and had a .343 batting average.

On the mound for Cal State East Bay, Ethan Brodsky pitched 9.0 innings and had eight strikeouts.

"Great performance by Ethan Brodsky today," said CSUEB head coach Mike Cummins. "We will miss this group of seniors, they went through a lot with losing a season because of COVID. We will start getting ready for next year."

Prior to the game, the seniors on the Pioneers were honored for their time and contributions to the program.

The Pioneers concluded their season with 24-26 overall record and a 17-23 record in CCAA play.
