Box Score 3 TURLOCK, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay softball team won both of its Saturday games and dropped Sunday's game. Saturday's wins for the Pioneers included a 5-2 victory over Montana State-Billings and a 2-1 win over Biola. However, on Sunday, Cal State East Bay lost 5-1 to Central Washington. In the win over Biola,
Abby Greer became the all-time leader in strikeouts in program history for the Pioneers with 365.
Cal State East Bay 5, MSU Billings 2 (Saturday)
Madeline Ramirez got the first two RBIs for the Pioneers, driving in
Sarah Fukushima twice. In the third inning,
Gabriela Rivera doubled in a pair of runs. The fifth run for CSUEB was from a pinch hit RBI single from
Serena Cadena in the sixth inning.
Anamaria Beard pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs and had four strikeouts.
Our offense made great adjustments as the game went along so we were able to push more runs across to support Ana," said
Claire Sua-Amundson. "Ana had a solid performance in the circle against a strong offensive [MSU] Billings."
Cal State East Bay 2, Biola 1 (Saturday)
The Pioneers defeated Biola, 2-1. CSUEB's two runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Rivera singled to drive in
Ysabella Cortez and
Annelise Garcia.
With her eight strikeouts, Greer became the all-time leader at Cal State East Bay in strikeouts with 365. She surpasses the previous record holder of 364, Lauren Zweigle.
"Abby [Greer] was just impressive today against Biola and executed her plan against their hitters very well," said Sua-Amundson. "She was really efficient today and was able to keep their hitters off balance. Offensively, [Fukushima] just had a great day and sets the tone for our other hitters."
Central Washington 5, Cal State East Bay 1 (Sunday)
CWU scored the first five runs in the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, asthe Pioneers were down to their last out,
Sarah Duran doubled, then Ramirez hit an RBI single. However, the Wildcats closedout the gamewith a 5-1 win.
CCAA play resumes for the Pioneers this coming Friday with a doubleheader at No. 25 Chico State.
