Overview

A postseason berth is on the line for the Pioneers as they host the final regular season series this week. Currently sixth in the standings, Cal State East Bay controls its own destiny in the event of a series sweep or can clinch a CCAA Tournament berth in other available scenarios. Saturday's doubleheader is also Senior Day for Cal State East Bay as a Senior Ceremony will take place prior to game one.

History

the series will be the first meeting between the two teams since February 2020, when the series was split 2-2. The Pioneers took the last two games against Stanislaus State, but prior to that, lost the previous six.

Three Players to Watch

Abby Greer – The senior from Beaverton, Oregon is a the all-time strikeout leader at Cal State East Bay and will look to take control from the circle to guide the Pioneers into a CCAA postseason berth.

Sarah Fukushima – The senior from Sacramento is the all-time hits leader at Cal State East Bay and is looking for more as she has 55 on the season.

Kayla Ching – The junior from San Lorenzo had four assists and two putouts in the series last week against Sonoma State.

Last Series

The Pioneers were swept in a four-game series at Sonoma State. After a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Seawolves in the series opener, Cal State East Bay was limited to only two hits in the next three games.

Around the CCAA

In addition to the Pioneers' important series, another series to follow closely is San Francisco State at Cal State San Bernardino. Cal State East Bay sits in sixth place and the simplest scenarios that would allow the Pioneers to secure a playoff berth include one of the following:
-The Pioneers sweep their upcoming series against Stanislaus State.
-Cal State East Bay finishes in a two-way tie with SF State in the standings by owning a head-to-head tiebreaker (with CSUSB falling into eighth place).
-CSUEB wins at least two games and SF State and CSUSB split their series.

Additional scenarios could manifest that are in favor or against the Pioneers, but are more complicated and could be affected by the result of multiple CCAA series in action. The postseason picture should become a lot clearer following Friday's doubleheader.
