POMONA – The Cal State East Bay baseball team wrapped up its four game CCAA series with Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday. The Broncos scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 17-2 victory.
The pitching matchup was between the Pioneers' Jackson Ellis and the Broncos' Noel Soto. The Pioneers struck first in the top of the first on a Matthew O'Mahony single to right field that scored Francisco Pedraza. The Broncos then scored seventeen unanswered runs over the course of six of the next eight innings. The Pioneers scored a run in the top of the ninth inning on a Manny Garcia single down the right field line that drove in Enrique Nunez for the final tally of the series.
Soto got the win for the Broncos and Ellis got the loss for the Pioneers. Pedraza went 3-for-5 and scored a run. Jacob Klinovsky went 1-for-3.
The Pioneers return home for a four-game CCAA series against San Francisco State next Friday through Sunday. First pitch on Friday is set for noon from Pioneer Baseball Field.
