HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team starts its 2022 season on the road this weekend at the Concordia Kickoff Classic, with all five contests to be played at Great Park in Irvine, Calif.

The Pioneers begin action against No. RV Western Washington on Friday, Feb. 4, beginning at 9:15 a.m., before facing Western Oregon later in the afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Play resumes Saturday morning against Azusa Pacific at 9:15 a.m., followed by a contest against Holy Names at 2:15 p.m.

This weekend's opening action concludes on Sunday, Feb. 6, as CSUEB takes on Hawai'i Pacific beginning at 11:15 a.m.

All five contests will have live stats available.

CSUEB was recently picked to finish 10th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Preseason Coaches Poll, garnering 24 points to finish just behind ninth-place Stanislaus State (25). 

The Pioneers are led by 2020 CCAA All-Star senior first baseman Sarah Fukushima, who currently stands third all-time in program history in home runs (22), sixth in RBI (103) and sixth in runs scored (101).

East Bay also returns its leading senior pitcher Abby Greer, who finished the 2020 campaign with a team-high 44 strikeouts with a 3.74 ERA in 17 appearances in the circle.

CSUEB finished the shortened 2020 season with an 8-19 overall record and 6-14 mark in CCAA play.
