POMONA, Calif. – On Sunday afternoon, the Cal State East Bay looked to build off a comeback victory on Friday. However, the Pioneers came up short against Cal Poly Pomona, falling 73-59 in CCAA action at Kellogg Arena.
For almost eight minutes to start the first quarter, the Pioneers did not trail. However, the Broncos came back to take the lead at the 2:02 mark, 15-13. The opening quarter finished with a 15-15 tie after a jumper by
Grace Campbell in the final minute.
The Broncos jumped out to a 10-1 run to start the second quarter. It was not until the 5:18 mark where Campbell scored the first field goal of the quarter. CSUEB trailed 25-18. While CPP led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, the Pioneers scored seven of the final nine points of the half, with five from
Kelsey Valencia.
CPP outscored the Pioneers 20-15 in the third quarter to take a 54-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter lead for the Broncos grew to as much as 18 points, and finished with 73-59 victory.
- Kelsey Valencia was the highest scorer for Cal State East Bay, with a season-high 12 points, going 5-for-10 from the floor with a pair of field goals from beyond the arc.
- Three other Pioneers reached double-figures in scoring including Campbell with 11 points, and Jaela Richardson and Delia Moore with 10 points each.
- With a team-high nine rebounds for CSUEB was Taylor Linzie.
- Moore had three steals and Linzie had a pair of blocks.
- As a team, the Pioneers shot 36.7 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from the free throw line.
- The Broncos' Alicia Jones scored a game-high 19 points.

"We got beat by a good team. [Cal Poly Pomona] came in and set the tempo today and just outworked us. We have to give better effort in matching that tempo and stay together as a unit."
