CARMEL, Calif. – The 2022 CCAA Cross Country Championships took place Saturday morning at Palo Corona Cross Country Course. The Cal State East Bay men's cross country team placed sixth among eight teams.
By way of a finish in 15
th place overall in the men's 8k,
Cole McKain earned a spot on the All-CCAA Men's Cross Country Team for the second straight year.
McKain was the top finisher for the Pioneers, with a time of 25:30.1
Placing 23
rd, with a time of 25:51.2 was
Aidan Singh.
The next three finishers among the Pioneers, which affected team scoring included
Matthew Morgon in 34
th (26:22.0),
Chas O'Bear (26:29.7) and
Miles Worthen (26:54.6).
Taking home the conference's Elite 13 Award in men's cross country from Cal State East Bay was
Justin Matties. The Elite 13 award goes to the student-athlete who has the highest grade point average among all participants in the respective sport's CCAA Championship event.
Winning the team competition in the 2022 CCAA Men's Cross Country Championships for the 20
th straight season was Chico State. From the Wildcats, Rory Abberton was the top individual conference champion with a time of 24:45.2.
Despite finishing sixth in team scoring, it is anticipated that the Pioneers will compete in the 2022 NCAA Division II West Regional. The postseason event takes place on Saturday, November 19 in Billings, Montana at Amend Park.
