Four Pioneers Receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS — Four members of the Cal State East Bay women's cross country team have earned 2021 USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the association recently announced.

Juniors Chase Worthen, Leza Cassidy, Amanda Navarro and freshman Kimberly Lima each earned the accolade, as recipients must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-30 percent at their respective NCAA Regional Championship meet.

Worthen is majoring in special education, and earned NCAA All-West Region accolades in 2021 after placing 19th overall in the 6K in 22-minutes, 2.7 seconds. The Sacramento native's mark is the fourth-best time in program history.

Navarro is majoring in sociology, and is coming off a 36th-place overall finish at the west regional behind a time of 22:27.7. The Lake Elsinore native is already No. 3 all-time for a 6K after posting a time of 21:11.9 at the 2019 regional.  

Cassidy, a native of San Luis Obispo, is majoring in sociology and is coming off a 73rd-place overall finish at the 2021 west regional with a time of 23:08.9. Her time of 21:44.3 at the 2021 CCAA Championships ranks sixth-best in program history. 

Lima is a biochemistry major and placed 45th overall at the NCAA West Regional with a time of 22:41.1, which was third among Pioneers. The Perris native's time of 22:01.1 at the 2021 CCAA Championships is 10th-best in program history.

Cal State East Bay finished eighth overall out of 31 teams at the 2021 NCAA West Regional. The Pioneers' track and field season begins with a home meet at Chabot College on Feb. 19.
