Pioneers Suffer Narrow Defeat at No. 22-Ranked San Marcos, 84-82

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team suffered a narrow road defeated to No. 22-ranked Cal State San Marcos, 84-82, on Saturday evening at The Sports Center.

Freshman guard DJ Sanders led the way with a season-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, while senior forward Zafir Williams scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Senior forward Justin Vigil made five 3-pointers and finished with seven rebounds and junior guard Zack Perlstein added eight points.

The contest was tied at halftime, 34-34, and Pioneers trailed by 12 with with 3:42 remaining before fighting their way back within two after Vigil's three with five seconds remaining. 

CSUEB (3-6, 1-2 CCAA) split two conference games in this weekend's road trip through Southern California, and will take next week off before resuming conference play at home against Cal Poly Pomona on Dec. 16 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
