HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay volleyball team was close to recording a huge upset on Thursday afternoon, but fell just short in a thrilling five-set match against No. 21-ranked Cal Poly Pomona, 3-2 (25-14. 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-9).
Junior
Breyan Ashley had a big game with 18 kills and eight digs, redshirt freshman
Mia Jordan had 13 kills and freshman
Julianne Tan finished with career highs of 23 assists and seven digs.
East Bay responded to adversity throughout the day, as the two teams exchanged set victories throughout the match. The Pioneers pulled within 12-7 in the deciding fifth set on a kill by junior
Kara Green, but it wasn't quite enough to knock off the nationally ranked Broncos and end CPP's four-match winning streak.
CSUEB (8-15, 3-12 CCAA) returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, as it plays host to No. 4-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Senior Day at Pioneer Gym, beginning at 7 p.m.
