RESULTS
SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's and women's cross country teams both put up impressive performances at the 2021 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships on Saturday morning at Mangrum Track & Field Complex.
The Pioneer women earned fourth place with 87 total points, while the men placed fifth with 127 points.
Stanislaus State (38 points) won the women's conference title and Chico State (25) won the men's crown.
Juniors
Amanda Navarro and
Chase Worthen earned All-CCAA honors on the women's side, with freshman
Richard Mckain garnering all-conference accolades for the men.
Navarro finished ninth overall in the 6K, crossing the finish line in 21-minutes, 20.1-seconds. Worthen was right behind in 12th place with a time of 21:23.6.
Worthen now ranks fourth all-time in East Bay history for a 6K, as Navarro is already third all-time from her mark at the 2019 NCAA Regionals (21:11.9).
Junior
Leza Cassidy took 18th place with a mark of 21:44.3, and ranks sixth all-time in Pioneer history. Freshman Melissa Sosa was 22nd with a time of 21:54 that now ranks her ninth all-time, and freshman
Kimberly Lima placed 26th with a time of 22:01.1 that puts her 10th all-time in program history.
"I'm really happy with the women's team," said Cal State East Bay head coach
Tony Nicolosi. "We've grown dramatically from our first meet and have become a much better team every week.
"Our best is still to come."
Mckain led the Pioneer men in Saturday's 8K with a ninth-place finish after crossing the finish line in 24:58. It was the highest individual finish in Pioneer men's cross country history at the CCAA Championships, as he now ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Senior
Julian Johnson placed 20th with a time of 25:29.1, while senior
Luke Calubayan (25:29.2), freshman
John Robert Bradshaw (26:00.2) and freshman
Justin Matties (26:01.7) finished 35th, 36th and 38th, respectively.
Cal State East Bay will now head to the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 6 in Monmouth, Ore.
