Competition Questions
Question: Since Intercollegiate Athletics are suspended for the fall semester, which also includes all non-CCAA sports, will the seasons impacted be rescheduled?
Answer: In regards to fall semester sports such as Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Swimming, Golf, etc., Athletics Department officials and campus leaders will make every effort to look at alternative timelines for practices and competitions, including the possibility of playing contests in the Spring semester. Such decisions would need to be evaluated by authorities at all levels including the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the CCAA, and other partner organizations.
Decisions to return to practice and competition will be made in conjunction with those organizations and in accordance with guidance provided by federal, state, and local health authorities along with the CSU Chancellor's Office.
In short, the majority of collective attention is focused on aiming towards a return-to-play as soon as authorities deem it permissible. After yesterday's announcement by the CCAA, the focus with Pioneer Athletics is on a potential return to competition in January 2021. However, there are lots of realities to be evaluated and dealt with prior to such a clearance being given.
Question: Is the rest of the NCAA looking to make a similar move to suspend sports in the fall and turn towards a spring-semester-only model?
Answer: The CCAA was the first NCAA conference in the country (any division) to announce a decision to suspend intercollegiate competition for the fall semester. While there is a growing level of discussion being held at the national, state, and local levels about solutions for the return of sports, there does not appear to be a consensus as of yet.
It is likely that additional institutions (maybe most) may end up making a similar determination to suspend operations in the fall, however, Pioneer Athletics, nor anyone at Cal State East Bay, can speak to those institutions' decision-making process.
Question: If Intercollegiate Athletics are suspended or canceled for the fall semester will teams and individuals be allowed to practice and train virtually?
Answer: If teams are not allowed to report to campus for practice the Athletics Department administration and coaches will be evaluating all options for facilitating training for each student-athlete. This will be done with a mindset towards the development and support of each student-athlete and once again in alignment with the guidance provided by all pertinent authorities and organizations.

Practice Questions
Question: Will teams and individuals be allowed to practice and train virtually?
Answer: The announcement by the CCAA specifically calls out the fall semester competition being delayed. If teams are not allowed to report to campus for practice, the Athletics Department administration and coaches will be evaluating all options for facilitating training for each student-athlete. This will be done with a mindset towards the development and support of each student-athlete.
Should future opportunities arise for a physical return to campus for practice, it would be done so once again in alignment with the guidance provided by all pertinent authorities and organizations.

Academics
Question: What is the plan for instructional delivery in the fall at Cal State East Bay? Will it be online only? Face-to-face? A mix?
Answer: As requested by the California State University system, Cal State East Bay will look to post some elements of its Fall 2020 plans in the coming days. Those forthcoming plans should give additional guidance here once they are finalized and published.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scholarships
Question: Will athletic scholarships be honored in the Fall of 2020?
Answer: At this time, Pioneer Athletics is committed to a return to play as soon as authorities deem it appropriate. As such, the retention of returning student-athletes and previously committed prospective student-athletes (PSAs) is a priority in order that competitive teams can be fielded once the all-clear is given.
For returners, it is the intention of Pioneer Athletics to honor the normal renewal process established by the NCAA for the providing of year-to-year grants-in-aid to student-athletes. Similarly, for previously signed PSAs, the intention of Pioneer Athletics is to honor those awards.
In short, coaches have been instructed to proceed as they normally would in regard to the construction of their rosters with the hope of a return to play as soon as permissible.

Logistics
Question: For individuals looking to live on campus, will the residence halls be open in the fall?
Answer: As with the previously listed academic question, more details should follow on this front in the upcoming weeks.
Question: What advice would you give someone who is not from the local area and is considering committing to some sort of housing arrangement for the fall?
Answer: Ultimately, members of the Athletics Department cannot make these types of decisions for you. Student-athletes in such situations should collect as much information as possible, including this FAQ document, and make an informed decision for the Fall semester. It will ultimately be impossible to know every possible scenario for the Fall semester.

Q: Due to COVID-19, are all student-athletes granted another year of athletic eligibility?
A: Many are, but not everyone. The following criteria must be met in order to be granted an additional season of athletic eligibility.
- The student-athlete used a season of competition in a spring sport during 2019–20 academic year
- The student-athlete was eligible when he or she competed during the 2019–20 academic year; and
- The student-athlete's season was ultimately canceled for reasons related to COVID-19

PSA's should contact coaches via e-mail.
The university's goal is to reduce the density of people on campus in order to help mitigate the spread of the transmission of COVID-19.
Cal State East Bay Athletics continues to work diligently with CSUEB campus officials to take preventative measures and combat the evolving coronavirus situation in our region.
Pioneer Athletics will continue to monitor the situation and follow advice from the
Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the
Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD).
