CHICO, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team fell short in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader against No. 5-ranked Chico State on Friday afternoon.
CSUEB dropped the opening game of the day, 8-0, before suffering a narrow loss in the second game, 2-0.

Senior pitcher
Abby Greer kept the Pioneers close for most of the day's opening game before Chico State rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to seal the win.
Greer allowed just two earned runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.

Junior
Anamaria Beard threw well in the circle again for the Pioneers, but again was charged with a tough-luck loss. Beard gave up just two earned runs on five hits in six innings pitched.
The Pleasanton, Calif., native has allowed two or fewer earned runs in four of her last five starts, but only has one victory to show for it.

Jennifer Palmares and
Sarah Fukushima had one hit apiece for the Pioneers, while redshirt freshman
Kayla Ching recorded a stolen base.
Cal State East Bay resumes this weekend's series at Chico State on Saturday, with Game 1 scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
