Pioneer Baseball Splits Homecoming Series Against No. 19 Warriors With 7-6 Victory on Sunday

HAYWARD, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay baseball team completed their Homecoming Series against No. 19 Stanislaus State with a 2-2 series split after Sunday's, 7-6 victory at Pioneer Field.
 
With the victory, Easy Bay improves to 10-2 on the season and remains in the top spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings with a 6-2 mark in league action.
 
The Pioneers and Warriors opened the afternoon continuing their doubleheader finale that was postponed Saturday evening due to lack of visibility. The squads picked up in the bottom of the 12th inning with the score tied at 4-4. The ballgame was originally scheduled to go just seven innings but ended in the 13th inning when the Warriors strung together two runs to break the tie and lead to a 6-4 victory.
 
Dylan Dudley and Mark Woinarowicz both compiled five strikeouts each in the loss, while Kyle Basch recorded one put out of his own. Tristin Tatum (L, 1-1) took the mound in Sunday's continuation and faced six batters.
 
Kaleb Keelean paced the Pioneers with two hits, a run and an RBI. Jordan Macias notched two hits and two stolen bases while Jordan Sadovia added a double, two RBI and a run. AJ Curtis tallied a double and an RBI with Omar Sanchez finishing with a hit and a run.
 
In the series finale with filled by runs from both teams. Stan State took an early two run lead but East Bay fought back scoring all of their seven runs from the third through seventh innings. The Warriors would battle back into the game and pull within one run before the Pioneers closed off their final comeback attempt to secure the 7-6 victory.
 
Ransome Alexander (W, 2-0) got the start on the mound and was clicking on all cylinders has he tallied a career-best eight strikeouts through 7.0 innings of action. The senior from Fullerton, has collected at least four strikeouts in all three of his appearances on the mound this season.
 
AJ Curtis once again was a stellar force at the plate for the Pioneers pacing the team with three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Samuel Esparza compiled two hits, with a double of his own, and RBI and a run scored.
 
Francisco Pedraza tallied two RBI and scored a run while Ryan McSwain led CSUEB with two runs scored, a hit and a RBI. Tim O'Dalaigh pinch hit for East Bay and racked up an RBI double that led to a run scored later in the inning. Robert Lujan scored after an leadoff RBI double and Jordan Macias chipped in a hit and scored a run.

Matt Woinarowicz (S,1) tossed the final two innings of action for the Pioneers  recording one strikeout and only allowing one run through eight batters faced. 
 
The Pioneers will travel to Chico State for a four-game road series against the Wildcats. The opening game will take place Friday, February 28 and wrap up on Sunday, March 1. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, February 29 with all the games being played at Nettelton Stadium.
