IRVINE, Calif. —
The Cal Sate East Bay softball team came up short in its final three contests of this weekend's Concordia Kickoff Classic.

The Pioneers dropped Saturday's opening game against Hawai'i Pacific, 6-3, lost their second game Saturday to Azusa Pacific, 6-1, and fell short in Sunday's weekend finale against Western Washington, 10-0.

HPU 6, CSUEB 3

Senior Sarah Fukushima recorded three hits and two RBI, but it wasn't quite enough in Saturday morning's home defeat to Hawai'i Pacific.

Junior Maddie Ramirez finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, while freshman Sydney Littles' RBI single in the top of the fourth scored junior Jocelyn Baldon and cut HPU's lead to 4-3. However, the Sharks responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to three, 6-3, as the final score held up.

Fukushima was just a home run shy of batting for the cycle, as the Sacramento native recorded a triple, a double and a single. Senior Abby Greer allowed three earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched.

APU 6, CSUEB 1

Senior Jennifer Palmares recorded two hits and freshman Emily Yanke recorded her first-career RBI, but the Pioneers were unable to out-slug Azusa Pacific on Saturday afternoon.

Yanke's RBI single to left tied the score in the second inning, 1-1, but APU added one run in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the seventh to pull out the win.

Junior Anamaria Beard pitched all seven innings for CSUEB, striking out three. Senior Emilie Portesi, freshman Kayla Ching and Littles also recorded one hit apiece in the defeat.

WWU 10, CSUEB 0

The Pioneers held Western Washington scoreless for the game's first three innings before the Vikings' offense caught a spark with seven runs in the fourth, as CSUEB dropped Sunday's finale.

Senior Bailee Glover cruised through the game's first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. Portesi recorded a stolen base in the loss.

Cal State East Bay returns to action next weekend, as the Pioneers play host to Cal State San Bernardino in their home opener on Friday, Feb. 7, beginning at 12 p.m.
