Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team showed promise in two season-opening contests to begin the season, but suffered setbacks on Day 1 of the Concordia Kickoff Classic.
The Pioneers fell short against Biola in the opening game, 2-0, and had an early lead before eventually falling to host and No. 10-ranked Concordia (CA), 19-4.

Sarah Fukushima had two hits, but the Pioneers couldn't quite break through in a close loss.
Cal State East Bay had a two-out rally in the top of the sixth to put runners on first and second, but couldn't but couldn't take advantage of its best scoring opportunity of the day.

Cal Stat East Bay resumes this weekend's action on Saturday, taking on Hawai'i Pacific at 10 a.m., followed by Azusa Pacific at 3 p.m.
