Pioneer Women Conclude Road Trip With, 72-64 Loss to Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif., -- The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team wrapped up their road trip with a, 72-64 loss to Stanislaus State Saturday night in Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
 
For the first time all season the Pioneers have now dropped three consecutive ballgames, as they fall to 13-7 overall on the season with a 9-5 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
 
East Bay struggled to knock down shots in this one as they finished the game shooting just 32.1 percent from the floor, their second lowest all season. After a horrid opening quarter in which the Pios only made three field goals and trialed, 21-13, CSUEB bounced back to outscore the Warriors, 18-14 and close the Stan State lead to just four at the intermission.
 
In all, three Pioneers notched double figures in the contest paced by Morgan Greene's 11 points and team-high eight rebounds. The red-shirt junior shot 4-of-8 from the field, knocking down her lone three-point attempt. Greene added two blocks, two steals and an assist in 36 minutes on the floor.
 
Kincso Kelemen also compiled 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting with two made three-point field goals and two rebounds. Madison Schiller came off the bench for the first time all season and collected 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting with an assist and two rebounds. Kayley Hsiung collected nine points and two steals.
 
As a whole the Pioneers were able to control the painted area and the glass as they narrowly outscored the Warriors, 24-22 and held the rebounding advantage over Stan State, 35-33. Faith Turner corralled seven rebounds with three points, three assists and two blocks. CSUEB did have trouble hanging on the ball as they committed 24 turnovers which led to 21 points for the Warriors.
 
Zhane Duckett turned in a solid performance for East Bay in her first career start as she swiped a career best six steals to go along with seven points, five rebounds and three assists. Celeste Almendarez contributed seven points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the charity stripe with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
Cal State East Bay will be back in Hayward next week as they square off against Chico State on Thursday.
